Blog Post
The cost of living is going up, but we don’t want you to sacrifice your holidays in order to save money. That’s why we’ve come up with a few tips and tricks to help save energy and money this September, so you can keep enjoying your getaways without any worry!
In Your Holiday Home
- Switch Off & Unplug: A simple change that can help save electricity in your Holiday Home is to switch off lights and electronic devices when you’re no longer using them. It may sound obvious, but it’s very easy to forget about turning off the light when you leave the room! Gadgets like TVs, games consoles and kettles all use up energy, even when they aren’t being used. By switching them off and even unplugging them from their power socket, you can be sure that no energy is being wasted, while saving up to £55 a year. (Energy Saving Trust)
- Keeping Cozy: The nights are getting longer and the weather is getting cooler, which can only mean one thing – Winter is coming! It may be tempting to crank up the heating but keeping the temperature a few degrees lower will significantly help keep costs down during the cooler months. Make use of extra layers, blankets and even rugs to keep the heat in and enjoy some cozy Autumn evenings in your Holiday Home!
- Shower Saver: Enjoying a long, hot shower after a busy day is one of life’s simple pleasures, but it can also use lots of energy. While showering can be a great water-saving alternative to bathing, spending an extended period of time in the shower can still use up excessive amounts of water. By shortening your daily shower to under 10 minutes, you’ll be saving lots of energy, water and money in the long run.
- Re-using Rainwater: We’re always complaining about the bad weather here in the UK, so why not put it to good use? Rainwater can be used for a number of things, such as cleaning and watering plants. Leave a clean barrel or bucket outside while it’s raining to collect the water, store the water for future use and save some tap water while doing it!
Getting About
- Buses: Cars are the most convenient way of getting out and about, but they’re not always the most environmentally friendly. Buses are a handy alternative, emitting a little over half the greenhouse gases of a single car journey – just one bus on the road replaces 30 cars! Our Fylde Coast Parks have handy bus routes into the local areas, so you’re free to explore while saving money on fuel and parking. For a fun-filled day trip to Blackpool, take the number 42 bus from Windy Harbour, the 20 bus from Newton Hall or the 14 bus from Broadwater and enjoy a cheap and easy way to have an amazing adventure.
- Bikes: Before the weather gets a little too cold, why not try exploring the local area on two wheels? Bikes are a fantastic way to get out and about, especially at our rural sites, Black Beck and Tarn House. Get close to nature by planning a peaceful bike ride, so you can enjoy some beautiful surroundings while saving money, and the planet!
