The nights are drawing darker and the weathers a little chillier but the fun doesn’t stop just because summer is over. Some would say that Autumn is the best time to visit Blackpool, Skipton and The Lake District, so here’s a few of our favourite ideas to guide you through the Autumn period.
Autumn time by the seaside…
Take a stroll along the Blackpool promenade and cast your eyes upon the iconic Blackpool Illuminations! For the third time in history, the Blackpool Illuminations have been extended until January 2nd, 2023, allowing guests to see the magical lights way into the Winter months. Wrap up warm, with the free display stretching along the entire promenade, keen walkers could go for miles.
Be sure to catch one of the World Firework Championship displays this October! The breath-taking displays can be seen on Saturday 15th October, Thursday 27th October and Friday 28th October. Why not make a day of it and get a bite to eat beforehand? We recommend you get there early to guarantee a great viewing spot on the Prom!
Escape the cold and warm up with a sensational show at the Opera House Blackpool. The West-End hit Dreamgirls will be dazzling the stage 25th October – 5th November 2022. With tickets starting from just £23.00 per person, this legendary show is the perfect Autumn treat for the entire family.
Let’s not forget the about spooky season! Blackpool in October is frightfully exciting with a host of fantastic events to choose from. Why not head to the Pleasure Beach and endure their terrifying Journey To Hell Freak Nights (over 18’s Only). Pick your perfect pumpkin at Ridgeway Farm, located on the outskirts of Blackpool or visit The Blackpool Tower Dungeon and get dunked head first into 1000 years of grisly and hilarious history! If a more relaxed Autumn is more up your street, we’ve got some serine suggestions for you! A wander around the glorious grounds of Stanley Park is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, with the impressive duck pond, play area, floral gardens, and quaint café, the peaceful setting is ideal for the entire family. Alternatively, why not try the Cartford Country Walk, a scenic stroll along the River Wyre and down country lanes, with the option of stopping off at the Cartford Inn for a delicious meal after.
Autumn time in Skipton…
Head to the historic market town and enjoy the beautiful architectural surroundings or attend quirky events such as The Big Draw Festival at Skipton Town Hall on Saturday 26th October, with the Big Community Doodle, a free drop-in event, from 10am. Keeping with the crafty theme, guests can also head to the Craven Museum drop-in workshop on Wednesday 30th October, from 10am in The Hub. Visitors are invited to join the spooky Make & Take family-friendly workshop, perfect for getting the kids in the Halloween spirit!
Thornton Hall Farm is a firm family favourite, an absolute must visit during the Autumn months! Their Spooks and Pumpkin Picking event is a spook-tacular day out for all, with magical adventures and entertainment suitable for all ages. The fun doesn’t stop there! As we creep into the colder months, visitors can make the most of the brand new soft-play area, while the adults enjoy a hot drink in the on-site diner. Then, start November with a bang by attending the Bonfire Weekend event on the 4th & 5th November! With a big bonfire display, fireworks, food & drink, live music, children’s entertainment and much more, you’re sure to have an explosive time. If you fancy living life on the wild side this Autumn, take a trip to Raven Tree Top Adventure. Suitable for guests aged 9 and over, spend your day hanging from ropes, zooming down zip wires and completing obstacle courses. With prices starting from just £17.00pp, it’s the ideal activity to get the whole family enjoying the great outdoors before it gets too frosty.
Yorkshire is well known for its magnificent views, so it would be a shame not to recommend some charming walking spots. After more of a challenge? Sharp Haw and Flasby walk isn’t for the faint hearted! Start from Bog Lane above Skipton, climb over the summit and drop down to the hamlet of Flasby before returning by the flank of the fell. Perfect for a stroll, Skipton Castle Woods Trail offers a pretty woodland walk, simply follow the canal out of town and you’ll reach the Skipton Woods. Dogs are more than welcome and with just a 1-hour completion time, it’s a great route to get out and about, while allowing you to enjoy everything else Skipton has to offer!
Autumn Time in the Lake District…
Explore the beauty of the Lake District this Autumn! With spectacular views, cute cafes, wonderful walks and exciting events, the Lake District is possibly one of the most remarkable locations in the UK during the colder months.
Hop into history and visit the enchanting World of Beatrix Potter™, with 50% off weekday visits this October (until 21st). This family attraction brings the magical stories of Peter Rabbit to life! Equally as stunning, explore 10-acres of Levens Hall, where you will discover spectacular gardens and hidden remains from the 17th century! Once you’ve finished exploring, make your way to the on-site kitchen for a bite to eat and a refreshing beverage.
