We’ve done a routine check on our medium sized colony today and we’re very happy to say our Partington’s bees have been very busy. Take a look at our buzzy update below.
Our bees are continuing to thrive despite the recent spell of hot weather!
Although there are plenty of natural water sources nearby, we’ve given the colony a helping hand by placing a shallow tray of fresh water with pebbles next to the hives. The pebbles provide safe landing spots so the bees can drink without the risk of drowning.
During our latest hive inspection, we found the colony has an excellent supply of honey and pollen stored within the brood area. Even more encouragingly, the colony is steadily growing, with many frames full of capped brood – developing bees that will soon emerge and boost the hive’s workforce.
To support this expansion, we’ve added an extra super (the box placed on top of the main hive) along with 10 additional frames. This gives the bees plenty of room to store the honey they’ll be producing over the coming weeks.
With the colony healthy, growing, and now equipped with extra storage space, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a fantastic honey harvest by the end of the summer!
