16 of the country’s top competition players will battle it out for the two ‘Golden’ tickets that gain them entry into all the World Bowls Tour televised ranking events for the 2013/14 season.
Qualifying competitions have been held throughout the indoor season all over the country with Masters Tour card events and the eight successful winners of those will meet the eight qualifiers from the International Open and Scottish International Open qualifiers to try and gain one of the two tour cards on offer.
Newton Hall Club manager Jonathan Goodall is looking forward to the event ‘It’s great we made such an impression on the World Bowls Tour by hosting the International Open in February at the Club that they have decided to bring their Tour Card play offs here. I’m looking forward to another top class event at the club.’
Once again the club will be at the centre of the TV cameras as the finals day is being recorded to be shown on the Sky Sports Premier Sports channel 428.
Richard Madison CEO of the World Bowls Tour commented ‘We have many plans to increase the sports coverage by the media and TV in particular. And the more quality events we can produce for players and public the better. The relationship we have with Blackpool Newton Hall is one we hope to continue into the future for several of our key events. The crowds and club members certainly have made us feel at home here.’
The competition starts on Friday 10th May with sessions at 10am, 2pm and 6pm. Then continues Saturday 11th at 10am with two games before the TV arrives to rig for the Sunday 12th when all sessions at 10am, 2pm and the finals at 6pm will be filmed.
Some interesting names have already qualified for the event with (at time of going to press) two places still up for grabs for the winners of the Lincoln qualifiers for the International Open and Scottish Open events.
The draw has thrown up some very intriguing first round games which will make for exciting viewing. None more so than when Irish International and ‘Big Gun striker’ Gary Kelly takes on English man Neil Smith, specialist in these sets games and, who has already qualified several times for the big TV events. Also we see World Ranked 29 Brett Arkely bid to improve his WBT rankings by picking up one of the two tour card entries. Brett known as a ‘Giant slayer’ in first rounds at TV events must be a starting favorite in the second tour card and a final against Kelly or Smith would give the crowd a first class treat.
Some tasty ties in sight in the first tour card draw where English International Gary R Smith must stand as bookies starting favorite, but then who can see past wizard Danny Dennison who has spent some time away from the TV stage and must be gunning for a place in all big stage events for next season at this play off.
The event is FREE entry ticket. So why not come on down to Blackpool Newton Hall and soak up what should be another good event in the calendar for the area and club.
